It is sometimes used overseas for an uphill low-hy root pass for high strength pipe. It's got more penetration than E7018, but less than E6010. Runs not as smooth as E7018.

Re: 6013 and Galvanized Welding The problem with gas shield processes or low hydrogen rods is that the shielding prevents the galvanizing from cooking out of the metal. I've never welded galvanized without grinding with 7018, but every weld I have seen done without grinding and with 7018 cracked.
